Southern part of Nepal has 3 Ramsar sites. Ghodaghodi Lake is one of those. It has 2 species of freshwater tortoises that are included in the IUCN Red list. They are Kachuga kachuga and Kachuga dhongoka. Different articals published show that their population in the South Asia are at stake. The main cause for their habitat loss are the invasive species and water hyacinth in the wetland. Moreover, the major reason for their population loss is their use as food item. There has been no baseline data for their population.

I have published this blog so as to draw attention for the protection of endangered freshwater tortoise in Nepal.

Every one can help protect freshwater tortoises. Your help can save gene pool.....
